You won't see cherry blossoms if you go there in the dark

And the Washington Monument is surrounded by scaffolding -

We found a Cinco De Mayo festival around all the museums -

And we didn't manage to get to the cherry blossom area before sunset...

But I got a yummy dinner - and that's what really matters!
(Old Ebbitts Grill -Steak Salad)

Ride the Metro to Eastern Market - then eat at Jimmy T's !

This place has cool architectural deco items, we bought some things there last trip-

I want this one -

Then a walk through a really nice residential area (Capitol Hill?) will take you to the yummiest waffles EVER!

THIS is where you will find them -

He's jealous b/c I got SUPER YUMMY WONDERFUL FANTASTIC WAFFLES and he got...not waffles!

Pretty great cupcake from Occasionally Cake in Alexandria, VA

I brake for cupcakes. Well for most baked goods.
So on our trip, when we found ourselves strolling around Alexandria, VA I had to seek out a couple cupcake shops!
Love the name of this place - I got the Orange Dreamcicle cupcake there.

I also can't resist a tea shop - I found 2 nice oolong tea varieties at this shop.

And finally Occasionally Cake - where we picked up a Fairy Floss cupcake.

(our new camera seems to add strange colors to my face in low lighting so weird)

We didn't sample our cupcakes until we were back at our hotel. Don't bother with Lavedar Moon cupcakes - the cake part was more like a muffin, and the icing was just gross. (the pale cupcake in the plastic bubble)

The Occasionally Cake cupcake (in the cellophane bag) on the other hand - was DIVINE! Nice fluffy cake and super yummy sweet icing! Still not as good as House of Cupcakes in Princeton, NJ - but close!

You can also see some of the vintage postcards I bought at the Big Flea, and a set of favorite pens - Frixion - erasable gel pens! I recommend!!

Beautiful day for a stroll in a cemetery

Here's me being cranky at our first stop of the day (back during our DC trip)
You can see my hair color and eyeshadow really well - so that's why I decided to post it. LOL.
We went to the Dulles Expo center in Chantilly, VA for "THE BIG FLEA" - an antique market. It was pretty cool. I perused vintage postcards for a couple hours!

After that, we stopped at Arlington National Cemetery.

It's a really beautiful place. I always enjoy the serenity and beauty of cemeteries.

2 more projects in Red and Black

I'm really enjoying making themed posts for Victorian Kitty's Red & Black week. Even more, I'm enjoying her posts and checking out what other bloggers came up with so far this week! If you somehow ended up here without going there first, go check her posts out - you'll be IMPRESSED!

On to my next red & black post:

I got this David Bowie T-shirt on clearance at H&M, have had it for months and never wore it.
Guess it was just a bit too basic for me.
(look at me remembering to take a "before" picture!)

I nipped it in at my waist, cut off the sleeves and the neck and added lacing in the back (sorry no photos of the back-blame Industrial Ken) -

While I had the sewing machine out, I decided to make a sham for a throw pillow for our bed. The pillow didn't go with the new quilt. Now it matches perfectly and I can change it back next winter to match the other comforter!
Bonus: Red and black floral arrangement and red and black blazer!
